How do I manage permissions in Rmonix?

Note: This only applies to managers within a larger organization. Most people can ignore this.

How it works:

  • You can right-click on a station or grouping and choose "Edit permissions" to assign permissions for that station or grouping.

  • You can also assign permissions for the entire organization. To do so, right-click on a top-level station or grouping and choose "Edit organization permissions." (A later Rmonix update will likely change this; you'll instead right-click on the "Stations and assets" header to the list.)

  • We support the following permissions levels:

    • Manage - Full control, including the ability to assign permissions to others

    • Create Asset - Create, rename, move, and delete assets, stations, and groupings

    • Write Asset - Edit asset setups, take new data, and adjust historical data

    • Read Asset - View assets and historical data

  • Permissions are inherited: for example, if someone has permissions on a particular division, then that applies everywhere under that division.

By default, everyone within an organization has the "Create Asset" permission on the organization, meaning they can do any operations on stations and assets anywhere in the organization. You could change this - for example, grant "Read Asset" to everyone on the organization (so that analysts can review each others' work and share data), grant "Write Asset" to analysts within their own divisions (so they can take data and edit setups), and grant "Manage" only to managers (so that analysts don't accidentally rearrange stations and divisions once they're set up the way you want).
